Pattern Dilemma

Maybe all of the talented quilters out in bloggerland can help me on this one.

I have this tower of Little Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings that I picked up at the Fat Quarter Shop a month ago.

Well, they have yardage now so I want to snag some of that while the getting is good. I know it won't hang around forever.

My problem -- I don't know what to make with this. I love the range of neutrals from cream to black. I've looked around for patterns this morning and I'm stuck.

Since my readers are much more talented and smart than I am ......... HELP!!!

I have seen some very beautiful quilts lately done in entirely neutrals...you could pick some to be your main fabrics then use the rest of the pack and make a scrappy type sampler quilt OR pick a block and use all of the small pieces throughout the quilt and sash with ones you buy more yardage of....hmmm...just off the top of my head

Oh gosh, I saw those fabrics Saturday while I was roaming the aisles of FQS and I want them so badly!

But I don't need them.....

Oh how fun! Two books come to mind~ Pat Wys at Silver Thimble Quilt Co just came out with a new book called Spotlight on Neutrals, and Coffee Time Quilts by Cathy Wierzbicki has great quilts too. Good luck in your search!! :)

Hmm, can't think of a pattern specifically but given it is neutral it might be a nice grouping for kitchen things... potholders, placemats or a runner, mixer cover etc.?

I'd seperate the darks from the lights and treat them as if they were a color...let's pretend they are light yellow to a darker yellow...most patterns call for lights and darks so keep that in mind. It would be cool to see star blocks in neutrals too! Maybe even flip flop colors in a single block kind of quilt...finding that perfect block you like of course.

Love those fabrics, Vicky!!! I've seen several beautiful quilts in all neutrals, but I don't remember a single one at this moment!! :-D Let us know what you find!

Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings actually designed a quilt using these fabrics. Here's the link for the kits: http://www.primitivegatherings.us/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=9640. I'm not sure where to find the individual pattern. The quilt is called '45 and life to go' and I think it's just gorgeous! Good luck with your hunt!

I'd be tempted to do the Star of Alamo, like those that From the Strawberry Patch is doing. They'd be awesome in those neutrals.

Star Savy Laps From Fats comes to mind for me. In particular the Star-in-a-Star pattern from the book. You can see it here.

I want to see what your readers suggest because I've been thinking of buying that bundle too. Have you seen cover of the fall Quilt Sampler? I think the cover quilt might work.

I bet it would makea gorgeous log cabin; just add a bright for the window.

I initially thought light and dark snowball blocks might be fun and then remembered that Lisa Bongean designed a quilt. I see someone else already mentioned the pattern. Check it out! Have fun.

Hi Vicky
I'm back ~ I know you have to moderate but am concerned that rather than sending to you I just eliminated my post suggesting that you use that wonderful line of fabrics to make the popular "The Farmers Wife" blocks! Love those fabrics & those cute little 6" finished blocks!

the Crab-apple Hill Snow Days would be GORGEOUS with those fabrics ...... neutrals are not my thing, but that is one tower that i would buy if wishes weren't fishes

I can't give you any particular quilts, but I would look in the prim quilt patterns, that would work nicely with those shades. Linda Hall always has some nice pieced quilts and Barbara brackman has the block of the week that would be nice too.

Ooh - I need that bundle!! I have the perfect pattern for it - Calendula Patterdrips Cottage. Do you do hand embroidery? Google it - it's so fun! I bought the pattern but will need to gather the neutrals.

Vicky, that is beautiful. I see stars or a log cabin..that is what it spoke to me. Log cabins are so pretty and it would go together quickly. You can use your GO cutter. It wuld be gorgeous!

Love you and good to see you back!

Oohhh... That's beautiful. I don't know what to tell you. Whatever you choose will be beautiful.

I'm no help, all I can say is it's pretty! I saw it at Country Loft a couple of weeks ago and thought out pretty it was. I'm sure you'll come up with something.

Love those fabrics! I think they would make a great log cabin without adding too much to them. The pattern by their designer is also great. I thought of your basket quilt when I first saw this line. I can see them paired up beautifully.

I just looked at this again at FQ shop and am drooling! The Schnibbles house quilt they show at the end of the yardage is darling. You could certainly do houses on a larger scale and they would be wonderful!

Not enough experience to suggest anything...but I really love the pack! Can't wait to see what you do with it...

Crazy curves?

"Spotlight on Neutrals" by Pat Wys. This looked like an interesting book with patterns made for that stack of FQ's.

I think that bundle screams BLOOMING 9 PATCH!!! :)

I have the perfect pattern for you, it's on the cover of Quilt Sampler. Looks like they used Little Gatherings fabric for it too.

Don't know if this would work, but look at the pattern James River Blue by Bonnie Blue Quilts. Love the pattern and the light/darks would be gorgeous.

No specific pattern to recommend but perhaps (my favorite resource) a book? Do you (or your local library) have Alex Anderson's "Neutral Essentials" book? I remember there being a couple of nice designs in there.

Also if there was ever a black & white quilt design you'd been interested in making, they tend to also translate well into a neutral palette too.

Beautiful fabric! I would make a log cabin, or court yard steps. Looks like a great combination of lights and darks. K in MN PS: My Penny says 'hi' to your Penny.

Hi Vicky,
I just came across your blog. If you haven't cut up your fat quarters, how about a pattern like this?
http://www.aquiltersdream.com/Rockin-Rail-Fence_p_114.html
I came across this at a quilt show yesterday. The sample was done in teals I think, but it would be great in the modas. Now I wish that I had bought the pattern.

Oh, the amazing things you can do with those! Good luck trying to narrow it down!
