Give-Away as Promised

I'm getting real busy at work, and stressed, so it's best this give-away gets posted now before I have to step back a bit.

"A strong design and bold fabrics in deep, rich colors give Joy Hoffman's contemporary Nine-Patch quilt a masculine look." The pattern pages are from the April 2003 American Patchwork & Quilting magazine, and the quilt finishes at 77.5" x 104.5"

There are template patterns included, but Joy suggests using Tri-Recs templates she developed with Darlene Zimmerman and the Tri-Mate tool she developed herself. I have used Tri-Recs on two or three quilts, and I can tell you they're worth the small investment. They are not included with this give-away, but are readily available at most quilt shops and can be purchased online.

I saw the quilt made up and it is really quite lovely. The kit includes 12.375 yards of fabric, and comes in a big zippered bag. Backing is not included.

To be entered in the give-away, just leave a comment and say you'd like to make this for your husband, boyfriend, father, grandfather, or that you'd just like to win it for the heck of it. That's a good enough answer at the LA Quilter household!

The drawing will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at around 7:30 pm California time. (I'm always confused about whether it's daylight savings time or standard time, so I always just say California time.) If your comment won't link back to your blog, you must leave an email address for me to contact you if you're the winner. And if the freeways are a mess that night, I might be a bit late - but it will happen!

Good luck to everyone.

I'll include my stash report here so I won't have to push this post down the page tomorrow. Thank you for helping me get back in the black on my stash report - barely!

Charm Pack Give-Away Winner

Wow, you all sure do know your patterns! I've made a list a mile long of all the ones I'm going to order from the Fat Quarter Shop! I thank you - and Kimberly will be thanking you, too, when she gets my order! :)

The part I really really really hate about give-aways is that I have to pick a winner. I mean, I want everyone to win. Maybe if I ever win the lottery .... oh, wait, I guess that means I'd have to buy a ticket! Well, you know what I mean.

So I cut up all the comments and put them in a Fat Quarter Shop box and drew one out.

The winner is: Deanna

Deanna said...
charmed and dangerous by anka treasures! i love heathers designs!!

I'm definitely going to get that one, along with about a gazillion others that you all suggested.

Deanna, I'll send you an email in a bit to get your snail mail address.

Thank you all for participating. Was it fun?

Another give-away will be posted in a few days. I just need to think of something fun to go along with it. Stay tuned!

Charm Square Give-Away

A little quickie and fun give-away! The winner will get three charm packs of the new Butterfly Garden line by Kansas Troubles Quilters for Moda. Naturally these arrived on my doorstep from the Fat Quarter Shop!

I love the Kansas Troubles lines and have been buying them since I started quilting. This line is really scrumptious. You'd just need a pattern and maybe some border yardage to make a dynamite quilt!

The fun part - all you have to do is leave a comment and suggest a pattern from here that you'd like to make with the charm squares. I'm really intersted in how you might use them. I've collected a ton but have not used so many. I need ideas! There's no right or wrong answer here, and the drawing will be random, but you must have a pattern suggestion in your comment.

The quickie part - the drawing will be held on Wednesday, 3/24/10, at around 7:00 pm California time. I should be home from work by then. If I'm late, it's probably because I'm stuck on the freeway. The story of my life!

Have fun looking through the patterns and making suggestions. Good luck to everyone!

Oh, yeah, I always forget this part. I need to be able to get in touch with you if you're the winner. So, please either link to your blog or leave your email address.

Civil War Tribute BOM Caught Up

It took me most of the weekend - of course, I lolligagged about a bit -- but I finished Month 2 of the Civil War Tribute BOM. There are four blocks. A lot of HSTs! This is going to be a dynamite quilt!

Now which to do next?

Pennsylvania Dutch BOM #5 Winner

This month's winner of the Pennsylvania Dutch BOM drawing - a $25 gift certificate from the Fat Quarter Shop is ....

Suzanne!

Suzanne emailed me a picture of her block and it's perfect! See, those templates weren't so scary after all, were they?

I'll be emailing your gift certificate to you in a few minutes, Suzanne! Be sure to let us all know what you get! So we can all be really jealous! :)

Kimberly and Kevin at the Fat Quarter Shop -- THANK YOU!! You make everything so much fun!

Next month will have a little extra from me along with the gift certificate from the Fat Quarter Shop. So everyone, get your blocks made in time to participate in the drawing!

Stash Report 2010 - Week 12

Things landed this week and the only sewing I've done are on BOMs. Today, though, I'm going to finish up some BOM blocks, and then cut out a new project. That should even out my totals for next week.

Three boxes came in this week totaling 10.5 yards. Well, actually there was more than that, but I'm not going to claim a bit of it just yet. I want to post a blog about it on the week that I count it as incoming. It's exciting! I'm excited!

What I am counting is a kit that I ordered from Brenda Riddle at Little Acorns using her Celebration fabric by Lecien, 7 yards. I can't wait to make this one. I'm leaving it out on my cutting table!

I also ordered two yards of a red/green Civil War fabric for a couple of small quilts I have on the to-do list, and 1.5 yards of Hunky Dory. 10.5 yards total purchased.

About the Hunky Dory -- I made Cotton Candy Blooms quilt for the Fat Quarter Shop. Gosh, this was a fun quilt to make, and it was SO easy! And there were good, usable pieces leftover. So I ordered 1.5 yards to put borders on another quilt from the Sweetwater pattern shown that will be made from the scraps. I'm excited about doing this. Something I've been contemplating doing for a long time with leftovers.

So I'm leaving these two out on my cutting table, because I plan to get busy on them - maybe starting today. Also the Stars & Bars quilt kit from Minick & Simpson! There's always going to be some M&S thrown in the mix! :)

I have my work cut out for me for the next couple of weeks! The stash report will be back in the black in no time flat!

National Quilting Day

Or Weekend in my case!

Started off finishing up the first month's blocks for the Civil War Tribute BOM from the Fat Quarter Shop. I'm falling in love with this quilt already! I just need to pay better attention to the directional fabrics. Oops! I figure no one will notice when the quilt is all sewn together. At least that's what I'm hoping! LOL.

So what are YOU up to today? I have fun goals this weekend. Nothing exciting, but I have a plan and I'm sticking to it!

Pennsylvania Dutch BOM participants, go HERE to post your block and be entered in the drawing tomorrow.

Seriously --

I was telling a friend tonight that I seem to be walking under a black cloud lately. Don't get anywhere near me!

I spent two hours last night updating my favorite links on my blog sidebar. On my lunch hour I clicked on the blog and saw that I had one link in there two times, so I went in to delete one of those. Well, I accidentally deleted all of my favorite links! Now I'm having to start over. I hope I can find them all again.

I am SO not wasting a dollar on a lottery ticket this week!

Pennsylvania Dutch BOM participants, the drawing is Sunday, 3/21. Go HERE to leave a comment when you've finished your block!! Good luck!!

Oh, great, while I was typing this, Penny decided to tear up the pillow she sleeps on.

I'm going to bed!

Sleepless Night

I tossed and turned all night, and didn't get one minute of sleep. I read patterns, finished a book, tried to watch a movie to get sleepy but that didn't work. I'm real worried about the work person's surgery this morning. Please say a prayer.

Anyway, about 4:00 this morning I was a bit sleepy, and decided I'd try to nap for an hour before I had to get up. I turned off the light, curled up and -- earthquake! It was only a 4.4, but the picture above my bed (that's not supposed to be hanging there) was bouncing against the wall. Needless to say, I flew downstairs and here I sit - still waiting for the alarm clock to go off.

It's going to be a very long day.

I wonder if I should try cutting fabric with no sleep. Hmmm....

~~~~~~~~~~~
Wed 3/17/10 Update:
The surgery went very well. Two brain tumors were removed, and one will be zapped with radiation. Huge relief here! Last night I slept!! :)
Pennsylvania Dutch BOM Block 5
It's so hard trying to take a picture when Penny is around. Four shots and this is the best one. The first two she laid herself right over the top of the block. The third one caught her walking off with it. Silly dog! She thinks it's a dog house!
The drawing for the $25 gift certificate from The Fat Quarter Shop will be held on Sunday 3/21/10 at around 6:00 pm California time.
You know the drill. To be entered in the drawing, post a picture of your finished block on your blog and leave a comment here with the link so we can all go see your block and your blog. If you don't have a blog, just email me a picture of it and you're entered in the drawing. Either way works!
Don't forget to get your backing set if you haven't already done so. The fabric won't be around forever, so it's best to grab it while you can.
And a huge THANK YOU to Kimberly and Kevin at The Fat Quarter Shop for hosting this club and providing the monthly gift certificates for the drawings. You two are so incredibly generous! And you have three of the cutest kids on the face of the earth!
Stash Report 2010 - Week 11
I have not been able to sew all week, and I don't expect to be able to do so for a couple of more weeks. The person at work who is sick is having surgery on Tuesday, and I've been working hard to get things pushed through. It's amazing how much I got done. I did manage to work a bit on bindings - five done this year and am working on the sixth. Two more big quilts to go. These will all be 2010 finishes. I will try to get some applique prepped so I can have that ready to go when I need to de-stress. It works. It really does.
Penny is getting better about not trying to play with my thread as I'm stitching bindings down. She's such a cute, joyful puppy, but no where I sat could keep her from wanting to play while I was stitching. I was beginning to think I was going to have to hand stitch standing up!
Last week I forgot to report the Fig Tree Club tablerunner kit that landed. That's 3.625 yards. I can't wait to make this one.
This week a small package arrived from Minick & Simpson for their Stars & Bars kit. I already had the pattern and had purchased some star fabric from the Jo Morton line, but I found another pattern on which to use those darker stars. What's a girl to do but buy more fabric?! Anyway, that kit is 7.75 yards. I'm such an M&S groupie! :)
I will try to get the Pennsylvania Dutch block made today and get that posted for the drawing info for those participating in the Pennsylvania Dutch club.
The give-away I planned to do this week will be after that. I need another bust to get me out of the red!
Stash Report 2010 - Week 10
Nothing busted. 9.875 yards landed.
The next two weeks will be crunch time for me at work. The person about whom I've worried so much has to have another surgery, so we're trying to get tons of stuff done before then. I do have my sister-in-law's grandmother's quilt out and am working on it. Hope to at least get that one finished and to the quilter this month. Finished another binding, Bundling Board. Beautifully custom quilted by Judy. I love that quilt.
Oh, the mystery box was the Fig Tree Club. I went ahead and opened it to get it off my cutting table. Will definitely be having another give-away in the next week or so, though. Already pulled the kit out. Just need to think up something fun.
Happy Birthday, Kimberly at the Fat Quarter Shop! Hope your day is wonderful!
