My Blogging History

I started LA Quilter in the early part of 2006.  Reading back occasionally through those posts is like a walk down memory lane.

There's been sadness and joy through this time, a small portion of which I've shared here.  I lost my sweet Daisy three years ago, my wonderful boss two years ago, and Penny came bouncing and yipping into my life.  I've been home to visit my brother and sister-in-law several times, taken a few other memorable trips, worried myself sick about a loved one going through an illness, and worked my fingers to the bone.  Sometimes I've been a prolific quilter, sometimes not.  In short, I've lived a normal life with the normal ups and downs that we all experience.

However, one of the total joys has been getting to know bloggers from around the world.  Okay, maybe I don't "know" you, but I feel like I do.  There's nothing better than to sit down at the computer to find an email from a blogger just checking in or wanting to share some exciting news!

I realized yesterday that one more post and I'll have accomplished 1111 blog posts!!  That's six plus years of blogging, an average of 185 blog posts a year!  And here you thought I had nothing to say!!

Well, you were wrong!  I do have something to say here, and I hope everyone who is reading this pays close attention!

This is my 1111th post and there's going to be a drawing!!!!!!!

And it's going to be a good one!  One blogger who leaves a comment will win a $100 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!  (Kathie, thanks.  I fixed the link!)

I was going to say your comment had to be about how wonderful it has been reading every single one of the 1111 posts, but then I figured that feeble attempt at humor would totally irritate those who do not enjoy reading my blog!  (Is it just me, or does anyone else find it humorous that even though someone may not enjoy reading a blog, they still read it?)

Anyway, those of you who happen to be followers, even when I don't post anything for weeks at a time, should leave a comment about what you will purchase from the Fat Quarter Shop if you win this drawing.  Maybe it's been something for which you've been searching, or maybe it's something that you just saw this week on the posts from Market now in progress!  How about a bolt of background or a solid that would work nicely with your stash?   Or how about a ton of new patterns?  Or a ton of fabric from the sale section?  Or a kit that you've been pining after?  There's an awful lot to choose from at the Fat Quarter Shop!!  The winner will have $100 to spend, and we want to know how you'd spend it!

The drawing will be held Friday, November 2nd, at whatever time I get home that night.  If I stop by to visit with Jane, it might be a little later, so be patient.

It'll be a totally random drawing!  Groveling is not necessary!   :)  :)  So head on over to the Fat Quarter Shop and start putting your lists together!  I'll leave the light on for you!!!

Congrats on your fortitude...It's a great diary of life and quilting-- hope you are getting segments printed for posterity. It's an easy pick on what I would purchase. I cleaned out my son's room(the realization that he's finally grown up and not coming back)I have cut up t-shirts for a quilt. I have concert tees, frat tees, church group memories, and I want to buy background and backing material to complete the project for Christmas....

If I were to win, I'm not 100% sure what I buy. Most likely some large pieces for backings since I have a big stack of flimsies and am just about ready to either hand quilt them (my preference) or send them out to be quilted. But, I'm very sure that a portion, possibly a large portion, would be spent by my 9 year old granddaughter Ryley, who is my quilting buddy. She has her own machine, her own stash and positively NO FEAR when it comes to cutting it up and using it. I love enabling her quilting and we would have such a nice time scouring the site and picking out fabrics.

And, btw, you might want to check your calendar. October 5 has come and gone already. Maybe you meant to say November 2?

WOW! 1111 posts! Congratulations! The Fat Quarter Shop is amazing and I am sure I would buy more than $100. It would depend on what I was working on at the time but backings are always a necessity.

I always enjoy visits to your blog. We started blogging the same year. I feel certain that I found you throigh Judy L. My fabric shopping these days focuses on finding new symmetry prints. :-)

I would buy backing and batting for upcoming projects, including a Christmas tree skirt for a wedding gift, a t-shirt quilt for a graduation gift, and a couple of baby quilts for the joy of it all!

Wow - 1111! I haven't been following near that long - only like two years or so. ;) And since I know you loooooooove constructive criticism comments - how are you going to draw a winner on October 5? Do you have a time machine? Because that would be awesome! :D
Anyway, what would I buy? A pile of Pat Bravo - mixing and matching from every line FQS has. Star Wars fat quarters. And a pile of charm packs if I have anything left.
Thanks so much!

Congratulations! 1111 posts is quite a feat. If I won the giveaway, I would get the "Noteworthy" FQ bundle from Sweetwater. I love all those text prints!

1111 posts - holy moley that's alot of chatter and I'm enjoyed every word. :-)

You're the first blog I discovered and then inspired me to start my own blog. Your claim to fame with me .... you shoved me off the hand applique fence and I love you for it. :-)

You already know how much I adore you and hope to meet you someday.

Please do not enter me the giveaway and we both know why. :-)

Well, I guess I can't pass this one up. It's like giving a kid a $1 in a candy store (or...that only worked in my younger days), but I would buy several things, homespuns, civil war and something new that has come out on the market. I am thinking $100 would go quite far. Thanks for the chance in winning this Vicky.

Well congratulations to you, that's some pile of posts. I don't have a blog but I love to read about what other quilters are doing. Around 2 years ago I started reading blogs, I think I'm addicted. If I won I'd buy enough fat quarters to make a Swoon quilt. I already bought all the quarter yds only to find out I needed FAT quarters. Congratulation again for letting us peek into your life and your quilting room. Thanks! Toni Anne

Congratulations on so many posts! I do enjoy your blog because you always say what you feel. : ) I would probably shop for some Kaffe Fassett bundles. But then I might get sidetracked and "poke" something else!

Congratulations and THANK YOU for those 1111 posts! I order WAY too often from FQS - waiting for not one, but TWO orders in the mail right now... yikes! (including that darling Marmalade kit!!) so I'm sure I could make good use of a GC from there. THanks for the chance!

Ann said...

Congrats, Vicky. That's a long running blog. I enjoy reading your posts and either seeing what you're working on or reading how you're trying to squeeze in quilting around the edges like most of us.

I have a few things I'd like to get, but mostly right now I have 25 or so "coming soon" emails from Kimberly I haven't looked at, so I know there is some special fabric that I'll just love.

Congratulations on 1111 posts! You've been busy. I started following your blog about 4 years ago, when you used to post your stash report. I always thought you had toms of fabric until I started posting my stash and I think we're pretty neck and neck for a while there. I think you must have shares in The Fat Quarter Shop. What a great site! Too many things to buy, patterns, fabrics and kits. A person could go crazy, like I certainly would!

Lots and lots of Kona solids!

Congrats on 1111 posts! I'm barely coming up on 300 in three and half years.

Nothing like a draw to draw out all the lurkers, eh?

Congrats on your 1111th post. I am glad you stuck with it. I enjoy reading your blog just for the sheer ordinaryness of it. You aren't selling me something, or pimping the newest and greatest gadget and I love Penny updates. never mind the nasties out there (sort of like ghastlies, I guess) but know that you have a bevy of fans that love your blog, no matter what. I shall enjoy looking at stuff at the FQS if I should be so lucky to win.I am currently making a T quilt and so have been looking at oranges and pumpkins galore.
Here's to another 1111 posts :)

It's strange how you can consider those you've never met (and will probably never meet) to be friends, but blogging does seem to create that kind of community. I do enjoy hearing how you and Penny are doing. I'm also like to hear about your quilting projects and your purchases from FQS. As for what I'd purchase, I'd probably get some Bella solids or perhaps some Independence Trail. They have so much, it's rather difficult to choose!

Congratulations on your 1111th blog post!

Love the Fat Quarter Shop...what a difficult decision on what I would buy if I was fortunate enough to win but....

I think I would have to go with yardage for the "Square In A Square" quilt from the IQSC line by Kathy Hall and Jo Morton. Gorgeous fabrics!!!

Thank you and the Fat Quarter shop for a great give-away!!

Congratulations on the milestone! I discovered you a couple years ago and enjoy popping in to see what's going on… This is a ridiculously kind and generous giveaway. Thank you!

I definitely want some of V&Co.'s Simply Colour yardage (especially the ombre), some bright Kona solids that I can't get here, and a couple of fancy rulers. I love FQS...

~Kristie said...

Congrats - that is one heck of a feat! I subscribe through a reader and always enjoy reading about your adventures with Penny.

I'm a Thimbleberries gal, but there's not much in FQS of those fabrics. I love the Miss Rosie pattern Double Duty but haven't made it yet, so I'd probably buy some Kansas Troubles Layer Cakes and Jelly Rolls ;)

Glenda in Florida said...

Congratulations on your milestone! I might have missed one or two posts, but I really doubt it. When I check in, I read back until I get to the last one I read. If I won, I'd buy all the new Little Bites patterns my Miss Rosie, and then with what was left, I'd buy a few more Schnibbles. I've got lots, but could always use more. Thanks for offering up the drawing.

That's a lot of posts!! Congrats! If I won I would buy some Jo Morton but I would also get some Cherry Christmas and I would have to get more Dear Mr. Claus. I know those colors don't go together but that is just how I roll!

Congratulations, Vicky, on having on reached a milestone number of posts. I've spent hours going back looking for "how did she do that" references! I would definitely buy backing material for the many bundles I've accumulated and didn't buy backings for at the time of purchase.

I have your blog bookmarked on a list that I check every single day for the last 3 years or so. That is an amazing number of posts! Congratulations on your accomplishment.

I am always very pleased with the service and my orders from FQS. If I had a gift certificate, I would buy some fabric from the Dear Mr. Claus line - enough to make a tablecloth and napkins and maybe some gift bags. The vintage prints remind me of being a little girl and watching my mom get ready for Christmas - brings back very sweet memories.

Congratulations! I think I've been blogging since 2005, but don't have nearly as many posts! I always have good intentions, though! I'd purchase flannel if I were to win. I gave my husband a flannel quilt on our 12th anniversary and it's worn through. I'd love to make him a new one!

Love the number - 111. Over six years of your life in quilting. Congratulations! I haven't seen the photos from Market yet but there is sure to be a new fabric collection that i MUST have - a fat quarter stack or layer cake and jelly roll, and that's what I would buy.

Congrats! I think we both started blogging nearly the same time and i dont have near the amount of posts that you do (part of the reason is i lost a bit with a website crash though).

I would buy some moda bella's to keep in the stash. I usually keep about 3 yards each of the bleached white and ivory, but I would like to expand on the pallet.

Thanks for the chance to win.

ha ha ha - i don't even have to go to FQS to know what i would spend money on - it would be Marmalade, for sure (we just talked about this, didn't we?!?) ... although i'm not above groveling, i am happy to know that i don't HAVE to - i read your blog because i ENJOY hearing what you have to say ... i DO find it quite amusing that people don't just click away (or choose to not click in the first place) when they don't like what they read ... there are people in Blogland who annoy the hell out of me - but only once or twice cuz when i get annoyed, i don't go there anymore, not even to win a free sumpin sumpin...

anywho, happy eleventy-eleventh post - and give Penny a scritch behind the ears for me...

I love that stuff and wish I had some in every color!
