Stash Report Week 49

I was an abysmal failure at stashbusting this year! I really am embarrassed by how much fabric came into the Quilting Condo. Sure, I've had over 400 yards busted, but that's peanuts in the overall picture. Since my numbers are in the red, do you think I qualify for a bailout? :(

A couple of weeks ago I decided that since this year is already a lost cause, I might as well get the things I need go with towers, jelly rolls and layer cakes that I already have. This fabric won't be available much longer, so it was wise, I think, to get it now. So I did. There's one more order that I placed last night, and that ought to be it for the year. Unless Kimberly at The Fat Quarter Shop teases me with a bunch of stuff that she thinks I can't live without. She's very good at that, and I'm SO easy! Seriously, she doesn't tease me at all .... I do it to myself! With the help of Beth and others who feel it's their obligation to point things out to me!! I'll also be making up a lot of Judy's patterns next year. She is such an inspiration to me!

I said last week that next year all incoming fabric must have an equal amount outgoing - plus one yard! There's another thing I'm going to do next year. All dollars spent on purchases will see an equal amount put into my savings account. For instance, year to date I have purchased 756 yards of fabric, say, at a ballpark average of $8/yard. That's $6,048! That money, theoretically, could go towards a long-arm to play with when I retire. Anyway, there are my two goals for next year. Time will tell, but I'm really going to try hard to meet those two goals.

But back to the present ...

I purchased 11 yards of Sumptuous Living, 19 yards of Portobello Market and Portugal, and 13.75 yards of Gypsy Rose. I also purchased a Sweet 16 bundle of Cottage Romance. This is the fabric that was used in the most recent Patchwork Party. I won't be making it until later next year, and this is my insurance against cutting screw-ups. If I don't need it for that, then I'll make some pillow shams to go with the quilt, or a quilt from one of the darling Sweet 16 patterns that are available now.

Did I bust anything this week? No. Work is overwhelming lately, and I'm just zonked when I get home. After Christmas I should be more free on the weekends to sew.

Year-to-Date Totals:

Busted: 498.00 yards
Purchased: 756.00 yards
Net YTD: <346.00> yards busted

Bring on 2009! I'm ready for it!!!!!

Yikes, why'd you have to go and put all that yardage into $$$? Now I'm thinking about what I all spent last year.

I know you'll do better next year! This year was just practice! ;0)

That's a wise strategy - stock up before the end of the year! While I did cut stash some I jsut moved the money to other aspects of my hobby so I'm not sure I really met my goals. I think I need to have my entire paycheck sent to another (inaccessible) account and pretend that I am unemployed. That would change my perspective!

Hey now! Don't blame me! LOL I've tried megging you on several occasions and you've already gotten the things that I tried megging you on. Silly girl!

I gasped when I read the fabric to dollar conversion. What an eye opener. You are so right. If we were a bit more practical, a lot of us could be very close to having the highly coveted long arm. I got your message loud and clear.

Those sound like 2 very do-able goals for next year... I can't wait to see what you are going to be making with all that yummy fabric!
Cheers!

It's great to have goals like that...the savings and the longarm!

I think you were wise to purchase while the coordinating fabrics are available...just think of all the fabric you will bust in 2009 from this year's purchases. :)

A bailout may definitely be in order! And . . why not? Everyone else is doing it! :)

I think your goals for next year a good goals and by this time next year, I hope your stash reports are quite different from what they are this year! And . . mine too! :)

i hear ya on the fabric additions.
lol if i put all my additions in for the past 2 months (none of which will be used this year) i woud be waaaaaaaaaay in the red.

so i've switched to 'busting' my ufo's during December, and preparing for next year.

0Can't you just think of this as your part to keep the economy going! Putting stash purchases into dollars sure is an eye opener! Go for low/no buy next year.

I think you have just inspired me. Whatever I spend on Quilting I will put an equal amount away in my savings account. I may be rich after all! LOL!!

Thanks a lot for putting an amount to the fabric you bought this year. I hope I didn't buy that much, lol. But, it sounds like you have the right idea on buying the "finishings" to go with the fqs, layers, etc. I try to do that as I go too. But at the rate I am finishing things, it is a waste to do that too. Sorry work is getting in the way of your quilting; hopefully that will end soon.

I am going to feel less guilty when I add my yardage $$$. I usually end up my one of my favorite stores with a 60% off coupon. And I seldom buy fabric over the internet. Just seems to be enough available in stores here to keep me happy.

I'm with you....bring on 2009. I need a fabric buying do-over!

Great strategy getting the fabric you need for the towers and jelly rolls...you're so right...if you don't get it now you won't be able to get it...you have great goals for 2009.

I am seriously starting to worry. I don't have the next block yet. With my record I'll be up till midnight the day before it's due!

I'm with you, I could use a bailout myself after all the fabric I purchased this year! I'm also with you in trying to do better in 2009. It's just so hard when they keep coming out with all those new fabrics & now I'm hooked on the charm packs, jelly rolls & layer cakes when I have tons of fabrics already waiting to be used! I never did have much will power but vow to try to do better next year.

I don't know who is more hopeless - you or me! I didn't spend as much as you this year - at least I think I didn't, but what I spent was certainly in the $1000 to $2000 range. Every time I'm good for a few weeks I crash and burn. Tomorrow I'll have to post a 2-week report since I didn't post last week. I've used up a bunch lately, but did myself in with a spurt of internet buying in the last couple days. Stay tuned - I'll be posting pictures as things arrive.
