Stash Report Week 52!!!!!

Well, I made it through the year keeping tabs on things, and what an eye-opener it was! And what comic relief for readers!!

The last order of the year arrived. I got in two yards of Sumptuous Living pink; a Lucien tower, 7.5 yards; and a Twice the Charm pack of Sumptuous Living, 2.5 yards, I think. So 12 yards in - and nothing out!

I was playing around with a spreadsheet this morning, trying to find a neater way of keeping track. I decided just to get another small notebook like the one I used this year. I have lots of margin notes in it and that helped to remind me of things this year. Today I thought I had forgotten to buy some border fabric earlier in the year, and I looked back in my book and found I had purchased it. I also found a lot of other things I've already forgotten about! LOL. Honest to Pete, I forget things almost immediately these days. I wonder if old-timer's disease has set in! Hmmm....

I'm really ready to sew up a storm in 2009. The first six months will be extremely busy at work, but I'm going to focus on the work during the week so my weekends will be free to sew. I'm going to sew something every night, though, which means I should always have an applique block prepped. Most nights I'm too tired to turn on the sewing machine, but I do often sit and stitch for a bit if something is ready to go. Yeah, that's what I'll do.

Thanks for organizing this, Judy. I failed miserably this year, but there's always next year!

Year-to-Date Totals:

Busted: 491.25 yards
Purchased: 788.00 yards
Net YTD: <296.75> yards busted

Do you really think you "failed"? How do you think you would have done if you had not been keeping track? Would you have bought even more? I ended the year with net out but that was primarily because I gave away fabric, not because I used fabric. But I do think that going through the exercise helped me understand why and how I buy fabric and that was good!

Busting 491 yards certainly is NOT a failure!!! I call it "stash rotation!". I think you did a wonderful job, made some lovely purchased and finished beautiful quilts too. As an added plus, your posts are always entertaining!!
Cheers!

Only a couple more days and this "practice" year will be over and we'll get down to business! I agree, 491 yards is NOTHING to sneeze at...that's 389 more than I used.

Hee, hee - I wonder how much you would have bought if you'd not been stashbusting! Seriously - using 491 yards is HUGE!

Looks like you purchased more than you used but you sure did use a lot. I think your idea of making little side notes in your book could be quite useful. I sometimes wonder what I had in mind for a particular fabric when I purchased it. I need to attach little notes to the fabric or do something that would remind me.

Stash comes in, stash goes out. That's the way its supposed to be! Just some years more comes in and is LOVED and it's hard to let it go! I agree with Vicki W---seeing how/why/when it comes is the goal.

I don't think the word failure should even come into play with our stashbusting. How about that? It works for me! :-)

You didn't fail at all, you just are a sucker for all those gorgeous fabrics out there like the rest of us. I'm still trying to picture what that much fabric looks like!

I agree with the rest..how can you be a failure by busting 491 yards!!?? My goal is to bust 500 next year...so I look to you for inspiration. So..you bought fabric too. You continue to be inpsired by fabric and if you don't have a little new coming in, it would get mighty boring. And just think if you wouldn't have kept tabs? ::
