I Give Up

It's futile for me to report stash busting any more because I'm not busting any. I keep sewing and sewing, and I've got two or three projects within striking distance of finishing and busting. The problem is I keep buying things.

I thought I was being so good this week, but then stuff happened.

I purchases two little towers of plaid brushed cottons from Sharon at Red Geranium Cottage, but that was 6 yards. I grabbed a piece of fabric on sale from The Fat Quater Shop, 5 yards. Then the first block and the backing came in for Angels Among us from Kimberly, and that backing was 4 yards. See where this is headed? And I haven't even gotten to the Long Beach quilt show yet.

10.25 yards in a kit at the show, a quilt for my bed. Another 6 yards of batiks - wow, that added up quickly. In Brenda Riddle's booth, four half-yard cuts, 2 yards. Osnaberg, 1 yard.

I guess I'll keep reporting (sigh) because the busts are going to happen fast and furiously, but it's discouraging. I've never kept track before. Judy keeps reminding me that I'm buying less because I'm keeping track. It's true, but all the same ...

Year-to-Date Totals:

Busted: 190.5 yards
Purchased: 508.0 yards
Net YTD: <317.5> yards busted

Off to finish up a binding for a friend, and then I'm going to bust something today if it kills me!

Yep, you have to keep up the reporting. At least we have a clue how much we're using/adding where before . . I know I didn't have a clue.

I agree with Judy. Don't you think you have changed your buying process? Don't you now pause for a few seconds for pushing the button? And haven't you passed up on some thing that you would normally buy? Yes you have!

Don't worry! Some weeks it seems like all we do is add to the stash then, BAM! all of a sudden, the finishes start rolling in and we are busting stash! when you actually have been using the stash all along! :)

Hang in there Vicky. Look at what you HAVE accomplished this year already. Man I'll be happy if I can bust 50 yards and you've busted almost 200! Even though you don't have a bust this week, it'll come and it's not like you're not using what you buy. You'll get there. ;0)

Well, you are USING your fabric, just buying it a bit faster than using it... then again, you do lots of lovely applique and we all know how slow that is! You do make a wonderful assortment of quilts and all that does take fabric and it is nice to have variety... Having said all that - it IS good to at least keep track and you ARE doing a great job at tracking.
Cheers!

using the fabric new or old is the main thing. If we didn't add some pretties now and then our stash would stale and we wouldn't use it at all. I had one maybe 2 items every week or so then all of a sudden BAM! I get a week like last week with what 5 finishes in a week- and then a wall hanging this week. It runs in cycles- just enjoy the art of creating

I know that stash reporting has helped me. Sometimes it's just the thinking about what you want to buy, is it a "want" or a "need it now" thing. And adding to the stash, well, it just gives us more options!

Vicky don't give up or get discouraged! Your busted number is awesome...you've busted almost 200 yards of fabric. Yes you have addeed but look where you would be if you hadn't busted what you did. Girl you are my hero!

Keep on posting. There are some months that things go good and others not so good. But, we are all working towards a goal.
It helps me to see what I've done for the week. Sometimes it looks like we didn't do anything, but we are closer to accomplishing lots.

A steno pad next to my mouse has helped me stop impulse purchases. I write down the site and what I want and revisit the info a week or so later. If I still have the desire, after looking through all I've acquired, I punch the buttons. Itchin to be stitchin,

Well, I'm in for 17 yards this week, so some of us are birds of a feather! VickiW is right though, awareness does make a difference.

Quilting oftentimes is more about what we want, rather than what we need, right?!?! Beautiful fabric is just sooo hard to resist!

Ah HA! NOW I know why that earthquake hit the next day! ROFLOL! Oh, and about that quilt show--you should have met up with Debi (http://debistitches.blogspot.com/) because she had plenty of batteries but no memory card! You could have done a trade! ROFLOL!
