To say this BOM has been challenging for me is an understatement. I consider myself a very good piecer, but this quilt has, frankly, kicked my butt!
I almost had the blocks pieced when I realized I didn't have squares needed for the corners. What? I had cut out everything at once! Yep, I did. But I also miscut those blocks -- I proceeded to saw them in half thinking they were for more HSTs. The Fat Quarter Shop is very generous with their fabrics on BOMs, and I was able to get eight more 5" squares for the big blocks. But try as I might, I couldn't get the eight 3.5" blocks I needed for the small blocks out of the leftover fabric.
I had to order another small piece. Okay, so I forgot to put that on my stash report. Sue me!! :)
Anyway, I finally sat down this morning after cutting those squares and got these blocks together.
I lost points all over the place. I guess you won't be able to tell that when this busy quilt is put together. But I'm starting to rethink my piecing abilities after doing these blocks!
Penny took one look at them and said, "Uh uh, I ain't even going to go lay on THOSE blocks!"

Love those fabrics and your piecing is excellent as always. Penny is too cute -- you get the best shots of her. Joey sees a camera and either hides or gets so excited the pictures are a blur.
Aw I hate when that happens. I've had some just not turn out, and I'd gone back measure the seam allowance yada yada yada and still not had a clue why they didn't turn out.
Looks real good to me, my dear. Thank you for sharing.
Happy Quilting!
In spite of the cutting issue :), the blocks look great!
We all have our days when it comes to quilting. I had so much trouble at one time that I almost threw my sewing machine out the window! Luckily I have a good friend who calmed me down. I have a paper pieced project hanging in my sewing room that has a HUGE point cut off. How do you do that in paper piecing! Good Grief!!!
I'm sure your quilt will look wonderful when it is finished. Thanks for your help again.
You've lasted way long than I did. I only did the first month and then told the shop owner I wasn't going to do it anymore but I would buy all the fabrics and patterns anyways. She let me opt out because she had two more people who wanted to join the BOM. All of them are having problems piecing the blocks. Some of the months have eight blocks to piece with tiny tiny half square triangles. It was way too hard for me with the pieces having to be cut on the 1/8 th and 1/ 16 th inch lines on the ruler. It will be wonderful when you are finished. Just keep that in mind. Your's looks great.
These blocks have certainly been tough...I've found that I've had to over cut for the HST's and then trim them down to size...It is going to be an awesome quilt. Look at that sweet Penny...
I am starting my in January but maybe I should start now and go slowly. LOL! I think your blocks look great!
I just finished the same blocks and I agree, very challenging. I am not looking forward to the rest of the quilt. I am sure it will be beautiful when finished. Keep up the good work.

Glad I opted out of this one. I sure don't need any more grief right now lol. It has been so long since I have touched a piece of fabric I may have forgotten how to piece. Yours will look great when you are through. Don't be so hard on yourself
Yes, some of the Civil War Tribute blocks are more challenging than others, but the quilt really is a beautiful design, so "hang in there" to completion... In the end, we know you will love it, and believe it or not, some of the blocks are actually easy ; ) Let us know how you progress. And don't worry -- next year's program, Civil War Chronicles, is an equally beautiful quilt, and so much easier!
Hate when that happens...however, the blocks look great and I'm sure that any point issues will quilt out.
