Sewing Table - the Continuing Saga!

I swear, it's not easy being me.  I keep saying that and it keeps being true!

I called about the new sewing table I ordered two months ago that would accommodate the Bernina 750.  It seems the new 700 and 800 series Berninas are much heavier than the other models, and the lift in these tables will sink because of the weight.  Horn has re-engineered their lifts to handle the heavier machines.

So after waiting for two months, I must wait longer.  Of course, I had the option of getting a table with the original lift, which I was tempted to do.  I decided to talk to folks smarter than me before I made that decision.  So I asked someone at work who understands these kinds of things.  His advice - wait for the new table.

This weekend, hopefully with the help of a strong back, I'm going to take the 750 out of my old table and reinstall the 440.  Then I'll be able to get back to it after months of sewing drought.

The holiday sewing weekend I had planned with the new smaller 350 Bernina?  My body betrayed me.  I couldn't even get the box on the dolly to move it into the house.  I tried to pry open the box in the garage, and I couldn't even get that small task accomplished.

I hate feeling/being helpless.  I have these two new machines that I can't use.  I'm going to get the situation resolved this weekend if it's the last thing I do.  I feel good enough to want to sit at the machine and sew.  I have things to do!

Everything else in my life seems to be chaotic as well.  As a person usually in tight control of her surroundings, I find myself constantly at the mercy of others and their schedules.

Is that because I'm getting old?  Wait, don't answer that.

Oh, I know how you feel! Due to some physical problem, hubs isn't able to help me with things around the house that are heavy. I still have two bookcases in the van that I need to take out and get into the basement. Most of the time I do stuff like that when he's not paying attention because he gets mad at me and is afraid I'll hurt myself. Although I'm in my 60's I refuse to give up yet and ask the neighbors for help. However, with your situation, I'd be very, very careful and go ahead and ask for help. If I were close I'd come over and help you out! Take care!!!

Be very careful and don't worry about asking people to help. If they can't they will tell you but there's always someone willing to help.

I can completely relate to your problem with Horn. I have several Horn pieces and have been waiting for months for the insert that makes the top one piece. I received it yesterday . . .a solid brown, unfinished piece of fiberboard. Now I've ordered a Bernina 750 and didn't know before reading your blog that the lift doesn't support it. Hanks for the heads up. I think I'll cut my losses, sell these pieces on Craig's List and order a real cabinet from Koala. This is just ridiculous.

Good luck with your issues and I hope you finally get that sewing marathon :)

Good luck with the sewing machine moving, etc. One day soon, you'll have it all set up and housed just like you want!

Not old but still mending. It takes time and things will come with that. I can understand the anxiousness to use those new machines. Maybe some handwork in the meantime.

Maybe the Good Lord is telling you to just cut something out instead... You're getting stronger every day. Remember all the people you helped and given to in your lifetime -- it's your turn to rely on your support system. Let someone else give the blessing to you.

LOL No it isn't your age! :-) Be very careful lifting, you don't want to go through all you just went through again. Sending good thoughts that you will set up and sewing again soon!

Hmmm...now no one told me that about the lift. I still don't have mine in the cabinet because I have been sewing and din't want to stop to readjust the lift. We'll chat soon...

I know these things will all get resolved soon
I am happy to hear you will be sewing this weekend, yeah, something to look forward too!
I really want to upgrade to the 750 but having to buy a new table as well now it might have to wait another year. I bet Horn is backlogged now cause everyone needs a new table. I had a Koala table and sold it I find the Horn tables are just more to my liking. I have had this one for at least 13 years and its the 3rd machine in it I will keep it and buy another table and have them face each other, just have 2 sewing stations at once, sounds like you could use that too! no down time them when machines are being serviced or if your machine quilting and still want to piece you can leave the quilt in the machine ready to go for the next time!!!!

If I didn't live several thousand miles and an international border away, I'd be over in a trice to get you set up and ready to go! I've been at the "mercy" of other's schedules and it's not a lot of fun but hang in there, and try not to be so fiercely independent (a frequently admirable quality, mind you) that you jeopardize your recovery, health, or social well-being. :-)

I don't know where you live, but if my son in Sacramento can help you I will send him over!

yep i know the feeling! It's no fun when things we have come to depend upon decide to up and kick us in the butt.
I'm at the same stage in life..having to learn to depend on others for help.
One thing that i've found that can make it a blessing is learning how to bless the helpers in return for all that they do for me. Somehow that gratitude that i express to them helps to turn their task into a pat on the back and a bright spot in their day. A 'Thank You", a smile, and a kind word really changes our relationship from one of service to one of mutual appreciation. What i once thought of as a handicap of old age has brought me more blessings than i can count.
