Goodbye to The Fabric Patch

I just got home from making my last purchases and saying goodbye. It's so sad looking, almost empty, a lot of customers just kind of wandering around. It's possibly going to be sold, maybe as soon as this week, but the location will be different and it just won't be the same, at least for me.

It's real silly for me to feel sad, but this store has been my escape for five years. I've met every single friend I have in my area of California through The Fabric Patch in one way or another. It's been the first place I went to after surgeries, the place that offered encouragement and inspiration, taught me how to laugh again.

I met Jane there, and I know that friendship endure. The sew-in group invited me to join their ranks recently, so I will maintain contact with that group of nice ladies. And I hope to stay in contact with some of the employees with whom I'ved formed a special bond.

I thought it kind of fitting that I found this pattern there today. It will be a great little wallhanging for the door of my stash room. And serve as a reminder every time I see it that I won't be needing any more fabric for a very long time!!!

I remember when the quilt shop closed in our town, it was sad. It was like losing a friend. I wrote about it back in May. I love the wall hanging.

Goodbyes are always hard. Lucky for me a quilt shop just opened near my house. It's small, but seems like a good place for quilters.
The wall hanging is adorable. I'm sure there are a lot of us who could us that on their door.

My favorite quilt shop changed owners a couple of times and it's never been the same. It was where they took me by the hand and taught me to quilt. I would drive past three other stores to go to my "home away from home". I understand your sadness!

what a wonderful wallhanging you'll have to remeber the shop by.

(You have a stash ROOM? COOL!) I am so sorry about your shop closing :( All I go to is Hancock's but I know every lady there personally now. I bet something new will come along before you know it! xoxo melzie

Melzie, that's so adorable! Yes, I'll put it up on August 1st to remind me -- all of us -- of the special month! Thank you!! You're so sweet!

I was so shocked when I learned that the Fabric Patch was closing. It's been there for so long! At first I was worried about Road, but I see it's scheduled for the next two years, at least.

I love that pattern! I think we could adopt it as the official wall hanging for members of the Stash Quilters! *LOL*

Yes, I too was saddened by the Fabric Patch closing. Now I have to drive for miles to a shop rather than just a few minutes away.
