Thank you, Nancy!

Nancy's blog yesterday reminded me that I also need to add books to my list of banned purchases for August. I'm such a book person. But truth be told, I mostly only glance at them when I get them home. But all that's about to change as I need to find new ideas to use up the stash!!

This is the messy site that greets me as I go up the staircase. It wouldn't be so bad if there weren't bags of batting piled on one side, and two bolts of Moda wool on the other! One thing I plan on doing this month is getting them organized, and getting rid of those magazines on the bottom shelves. I need to spend an afternoon going through the mags, removing the quilts I like, and then tossing the rest of them. And I also need to go around the house and gather up the rest of the books that are on every table, every surface, in the car ....

August 1st - and the first day of my new quilting adventure!!

one of the best things a friend gave me years ago was the idea of not purchasing anything until I knew where it would "live" in my house... now if the area I've designated for batting is full, no more batting is bought... Its still a struggle to get things away at times, but at least they all have a home ;-)

I'm with you! I have recently returned to buying magazines to make me "feel" better when I am down or stressed... NO MORE!

good incentive to help yourself-a neat looking set of bookcases and some inspiration to turn that lovely stash into quilts you will love.

Well, I didn't sign up to participate...but more than likely I won't buy anything new this month either since I really don't need anything...BUT I'll be glad to follow along as watch the progress of all you gals!!

I have a full book shelf as well, but it is very organized so it will stay :-) I think I might go and see if I love all the books or if I will give some away.
I am well stocked on batting right now, and it is the only thing I will buy in August - if I need it that is !
I do not buy magazines anymore and enjoy the ones I still have over and over again. I should do it more often with more of my books as well.
I am very ready to use from my stash now, with such inspiring company :-)

Oh you girls are all so strict with yourselves! I admire that, but can't compete. I will try though. I love your logo! I should sign up just for that bit of cuteness! Good luck to all, and to all a good luck.

Oh my goodness no books either! And, you're going this "cold turkey". I'm afraid for you! LOL

that's suppose to say "you're DOING this cold turkey" - that's what I get for rushing! DUH!

At least your bookshelves will support the books! I had to put screws in the ends of my shelves, because they were throwing the books at me (once as I was attempting to straighten them).

But think of the hours...days... you could spend looking through what you already have. Maybe that'll keep you away from temptation?

I've been reading about your no buy pledge for August, but I can't participate this month. A quilting buddy is coming to Boston to visit her daughter, but this Saturday I get to take her shop hopping! And then the 2 following weekends I'm going to 2 more quilt shows! By September I'll be ready for a no-buy month. Good luck!

Heehee -- well, my dear, how does it feel to be a CULT LEADER?! :)

Looks like just about everybody in Blogland is going to try your challenge. I've been getting a few ideas organized for myself, so I don't "run out of stash things to do" (haha -- not likely in my lifetime!!!)

Pleasant and breezy here ...

Hugs ~ Jeanne

I'm so proud of all of you! We CAN do this! And who knows? We might decide we like our stash -- in fact, fall madly in love with it all over again!!

From my online quilting buddies group I've counted 27 who joined the challenge. I've gotten at least 40 emails from Stash ring members and others who saw or heard about the challenge and emailed me.

I'd say we're all going to have a LOT of support this month.

One day down, 30 to go!

If you need a book fix to salve your itchy wallet, just head to the local public library!

It won't feel as good as buying fabric, but hey... it's still fun!

It's amazing how many have signed up to join you...I'm amazed the fabric companies haven't had a response! I love your bobbins on the top of the book case. You'll have to talk about them one day.

About those books - you can always round up a bunch to take the a used book store and then if you do buy something - it will not be adding to the total number - or you might just have some extra cash to make some purchases once you are done with the fabric diet

I can restrict my fabric buying but I don't know about restricting my book buying.

Maybe I will join in for just a month - quilt books only. Luckily I bought two on Monday so I got a last fix!

Good luck on cutting up the magazines. I can't bring myself to do it.
I can't find the html stuff on computerpeach's site to add the logo to mine.
This month is harder than we thought it would be, I guess.
