Stash Report 2010 - Week 19

I'm 81.625 yards in the hole for the year. Woke up this morning thinking about that. Honestly, I'm going to end the year in the hole because I keep poking buttons and I'm only stitching on needle projects now. Also, I've been spending a lot of quality quilting time sorting out the stash room. The guilt gets to me, but then I think about retirement looming in a few short years and I just go ahead and poke. It's a sad state of affairs at the LA Quilter house, I tell you; a sad state.

Market is also looming, and who knows what will strike my fancy after that. I already know I'm going to get Minick & Simpson's new line, Clermont Farms, and whatever new BOM Anne Sutton at Bunny Hill Designs will be showing, as well as some of Brenda Riddle's new line, Durham Anew from Lecien.

I decided the best way to deal with any other new fabrics that I fall in love with is to just get a kit. I tend to way overbuy if I don't know what I'm going to make out of them. Take Rouenneries, for example. I have no clue how much of that I bought but I'd wager it's over 50 yards, probably way over. Guess French General must be added to the list above. (sigh) Fig Tree always seems to follow me home, even when I vow that I have enough of it to last a lifetime. (more sighs)

It must be Moda's fault!

Meanwhile, 17 yards came to roost this week - four layer cakes, six charm packs, and two additional yards. I'm going to try to finish up Rabbits Prefer Embroidery this week so I can start cutting some of this stuff up.

Year-to-Date Totals:

Busted: 104.125 yards
Purchased: 185.75 yards
Net YTD: (81.625) yards busted :(

When you retire and your income drops, at least you know you will have enough fabric and projects to keep you busy.

You are investing in your future! Fabric costs are only going to go up. Right?

I know this online button poking is dangerous for me as well. But you are still reporting and have used over 100 yards! I have not yet met the 100 yard line... working on it, slowly 1 yard at a time...

Don't feel guilty!! If you can afford to buy it, then all is well! And it is ALL MODA'S FAULT!!! They should start putting out all ugly stuff! They have enough of our money as it is! lol

{{HUGS}} to you and Penny!!!

So when I need ROuenneries and it's all gone come to you? lol
(Hugs)
You're right to think of retirement sewing. You're so used to being busy it'll be hard to adjust. I'm sure you'll go through the fabrics like crazy then.

stash building is an important skill! one that is learned over time... and you... you are the queen of it... although i think that i'm making fast progress at becoming a stash master myself!

I'm not sure why you are so hard on yourself....enjoy each purchase, you've earned the right to do so. When you buy fabric just think to yourself, "If I never make anything from this fabric, I will still enjoy seeing it in my stash room". That should be good enough!!

but when you are retired then you will have a new incentive....to use it all up so there won't be any leftovers to deal with.
Also for these years in the future...don't worry. there are still plenty of shops that have enough of those popular fabrics from two or three years ago to make quilts with. I'm glad you are enjoying your embroidery!

You're doing fine. Buying fabric now is like putting money aside for retirement. Fabric prices will go up, retirement income will be less so . . you're just setting yourself up for future success!

i'm all for stash building and investing in the future ... but i didn't fall in love with the Rouenneries - my downfall seems to be Jason Yenter's latest whatever - i tell myself "NO!" and then i poke the button anyway

You will just love everything you just purchased, especially that Breath of Avignon! Not many shops carry that fabric and it is just gorgeous. I made the Imagine quilt from Schnibbles Times Two and I just love it. Have a wonderful week and remember to buy, buy, buy....Susan

I got to your blog via a picture on another blog...and I love it! Penny is adorable and you should definitely keep putting her in the pictures. LOL....but I can't believe you are keeping track of your stash like that!! The only way I get through the day is I lie to myself about what goes in and out...and about how much fabric it really takes to make something! I love it...
