Continuing Saga

Okay. So I picked my car up last night from the dealership. They assured me it was "good to go." I drove home and parked it in the garage.

This morning I got in it and started driving on the freeway to work. Almost to my exit -- yep, you guessed it. All the lights came on, it started shaking, the same problem it was in the shop for for over two weeks.

I managed to get off the freeway on the correct exit, and limped to the office. I backed it in my parking space and called the dealership to send a wrecker. That conversation .... well, how should I put this? I think I might have gone a bit Cajun on them.

Later they called and said they had to keep it -- no kidding! -- and they would arrange for a rental. This was 1:00. It went all downhill from there. The rental company didn't come get me from work until 6:20, and I had to take the guy back to his office, which was in the other direction from where I needed to be. I was over an hour late to my dinner meeting.

Tomorrow it gets serious with these folks. I'll call the attorney and find out my options. I'm thinking lemon law here.

I had the car a whole 12 hours, 11 of which it was parked in my garage.

I hate this vehicle. It's no longer the QuiltMobile. It's just a vehicle.

If you're planning to talk to an attorney, it would be wise to print a copy of all of your blog posts about the LEMON - it's great documentation of what's happened, in addition to your receipts, of course! Best of luck to you! So sorry!

How old is your car? I wanted to use the lemon law for my last car but it depends on how old your car is for it to apply, unless they changed it. What a pain.

OMG the car is possessed...sounds like that crazy vehicle I had...they knew me at the dealership...saw me coming and everyone got real busy doing something. Hope they do the right thing for you!

OH NO! I had so hoped that it would be fine when you got it back. At this point it's time to not be real nice to the dealership any longer. They should have checked and rechecked and test drove it to make sure it wouldn't do it again.

if the Lemon Law doesn't work, then only a new engine will do at this point in time. otherwise, sell it for parts (even at a loss) and get another car.
you need a dependable vehicle, and this one isn't it.

This one sounds like a lemon for sure. Hope you get them to take it back so you can move on to a better car.

I'm sure the Lemon Laws are different from state to state but you really should go for it. My daughter worked with the dealer for months and I finally got her a lawyer and she had a new car in a matter of weeks, at no cost to her, not even lawyer fees. It is so worth it when you have a problem like this. Good luck.

They may put up lots of hurdles, but the Lemon Law does work if you have the stamina to push through!! I have a cousin who got a new vehicle AND the mediator found a price difference on the original purchase paperwork so he got that amount, too!!! Go for it! Jan

Ugh. My car is 11 years old. Part of me would love to have a fun new car but this car is the most reliable car I have ever owned. I think I will keep it until it dies!

The last report I got today was that Toyota corporate was over at the dealership looking at it today, and ordered a couple of parts for it that have nothing, as far as I can figure, with why the motor is malfunctioning. I think they're trying to put a bandaid on a surgical problem. In the meantime, I'm in a teeny rental but at least it fits in my garage. :) As soon as I get that puppy back, I'm going new car shopping for a completely different brand! It's a shame this car only lasted 47K miles....

(Now I'm talking to myself)

And it's a shame to have to get rid of a car that still has the new car smell.

That is the pitts! Kind of makes you wonder about the mechanic.

I giggled when I read "I might have gone a bit Cajun on them." I can so relate. These Georgians don't know what to do when I let my Cajun loose. Getting your attorney involved sounds smart to me. We absolutely have to have dependable cars. Good luck, friend!
