Design Wall Monday - 1/10/10

Actually it's Design Sewing Table Monday, but that's just semantics! Should have "staged" the picture, but, hey, just keeping it real here!

I worked most of the day yesterday on the 3 Sisters in Rome quilt, and am about two-thirds done making the blocks. It's colorful and scrappy - or as scrappy as you can get using just one line of fabric.

I've discovered three things:

1. It's boring sewing these strips, but boring is good when I haven't sewn in so long.

2. I'm not planning any colors, just grabbing a strip and sewing it on. It's amazing how many times I'll grab a strip that touches another strip of the same fabric. With 40 fabrics here, I would have thought that wouldn't happen very often.

3. No matter how nice and neat and organized I start out, I always end up with a pile of messy fabrics next to my machine. Creative chaos? Please agree with me!

I hope to be able to work on these a bit each night this week. Who knows? I might be ready to assemble the top next weekend.

Check out Judy's Design Wall Monday to see what others have up on their design wall! And how much neater they are!

I'm currently working with Roman Holiday too! I just love that family of fabric, good for you to get that kit out and to start piecing....that fabric is too lovely and valuable to sit on a shelf!

Love the look of those blocks, as I said the other day, you're inspiring me to get my kit out of the cupboard too!

Vicky, I love seeing your creative chaos! I am excited that you are sewing again and having fun. The only thing that could make me happier would be me sewing!

The blocks look great. I have a hard time doing random selection like that but am learning to try it.

Every creator takes chaos and makes beauty. It's almost and essential.LOL

Looks great so far! I always try to go random also...and when I get those fabric that are too "close" I still end up nit-picking each and every one. Love what you're doing...

Good grief - cleaning like sleep is over rated! If you look closely at my posts from the past couple of days, you can see "stuff" peeking out from beneath the chair (and it's also under the quilt I was photographing, just sayin). . . Welcome to the Chaos Club!

So glad your kit is out in the light getting its Vitamin D--being shut in a closet for so long wasn't healthy! It will be gorgeous. Mindless sewing is never neat around here either.

Way to go on having a Design Wall post! Those blocks are looking good! And mindless sewing is sometimes just what a quilter needs!

I love Creative Chaos as that is how I work best. I try to start organized but chaos ensues shortly thereafter.
