Strings

I had fun today. First thing this morning, a haircut, or as I call it, a dip & clip! Four ladies whom I've met in classes at The Fabric Patch invited me to join them on their sew-in today. We used the classroom there. It was a lot of fun just sitting in a relaxed atmosphere sewing on our projects. Of course, I always manage to do more visiting than sewing, but it's good to be with other quilters, and nice ones at that!

I decided to start my string quilt that I got the pink, orange, yellow fabric for a couple of months ago. To start this was challenging: I had to overcome a few inhibitions - scrappy, random and brights - all in one day! LOL!

I managed to get four blocks done, and I can see that it'll be fun to make a few of these every weekend. It's bright! It's scrappy! It's random! I can do it!!

And it's always fun getting to visit with Jane. I bought a few more brights for my Freddy collection, and a couple of small cuts I'll need for the new "Pumpkin Hill" pattern by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs. I have all of the rest of the fabric needed for that one! :)

I'm smiling today and my heart is happy.

My gratitude today is the pure joy Daisy displayed when I got home. Yep, she knows I love her!

Vicki - it looks just like spring (or summer to us)! Looks like a fun one to do! And fun - to do a bit here and there with no due date!

Great job! Kind of fun to change directions!

I love your color choices! This quilt is loaded with sunshine. Just curious, did you piece on a foundation?

The bright string blocks are wonderful. They make one smile just to look at them. They are really fun to do arent' they! I'm glad to hear Daisy is looking better.

I like the idea of starting with the same color in the middle of the squares - that'll be a neat effect when they're all sewn together. :)

Vicky! What happy bright colours. I love it! And that focus fabric is perfect to run through all those blocks. So glad you had a good day .... well, how could you not have?

Are you using muslin or paper for foundation? Perhaps you're foundation piecing - let us know.

Thanks for the nice comments. This really is a stretch for me, but I'm having fun with it. That's the most important thing!

Jane gave me a box of very thin sandwich wrap paper she picked up at one of those box stores. I followed her directions and cut them to 9.5 square (that's the size ruler handy). I place the center piece and then started piecing out from there. It's bugging me a bit because those seams won't "line up" -- another inhibition to overcome! lol

Vicky, further to your comment about those lines not lining up and bugging you ..... they'd bug me as well. I'd have to have each fabric the same size and in the same position. We need to throw caution to the wind and just DO IT.

bright and springy. Not everyone is comfortable with scrappy but it should get easier. The blocks look fun and as Judy said, "happy" like sunshine.

I love these string blocks. I don't use a lot of brights either but these look great.
