Progress Halted

Sunday evening I pulled out Cobble Stones to work on. Made all the sashing strips, and pinned them to the blocks. When I laid them out on the ironing board, I noticed something. I didn't twirl the center seam on about half of the blocks. I don't know why I didn't do this except that maybe (1) I was tired or (2) I was having so much fun with the new iron.

You can really see the difference in how the blocks lay. The one on the right is twirled; the left is not twirled. Both blocks had the same amount of pressing.

Before I sew those sashings to the blocks, I'm going to repress and twirl. In the end I'll be a lot happier with the quilt. It's worth the half hour of extra effort, don't you think?

I'd heard of this twirl technique but never done it. I'l have to give it a try because your photos show what a difference it makes. Thanks for the demo.

I love to twirl the little centers of blocks. Don't know why, but it's fun to me! And they lay so flat! It's the simple things...

Definitely twirl. They behave so much better

If it will bother you then yes, yes it is worth it.

I twirled mine, too, and I also pressed half of the block sections to the dark strip and the other half to to the light triangles, so they would lay better.

That's going to be a very pretty quilt!...twirled or not twirled. :D

I've read this blog twice and studied the pictures....I don't get it, maybe it's because I've never heard of twirling, when it comes to sewing. Does it look different on the backside? If you think it makes a difference than it's definitely worth the extra time, whatever it is!

Love the blocks. I like to "twirl" my seams in the center too. Absolutely worth the effort.

I have a question about your new iron, do you feel like it gets nice and hot? Mine iron just doesn't seem to get hot enough to give a real good, crisp press. Anxious to hear your reply.

The twirling certainly looks to make a difference, I'll have to try it. Thanks

I worked on a pinwheel last weekend and I pressed all my seams open. My fingertips were SINGED by the end of the night, but my centers really did go together like a dream.

I'm slightly too distracted by your fabrics to notice your pressing job. Those fabrics are GORGEOUS!!! Can't wait to see the final outcome!
