Stash

Today I spent almost $2900 on my car. I decided to revisit my stash and get real cozy with it since that’s where I’m going to be doing my shopping for the foreseeable future. It fills two large closets, the bookshelves I had made for the stash room, and the hallway linen closet. And that’s not even counting the purple Fabric Patch bags sitting everywhere in my sewing room full of fabric that hasn’t been ‘filed’ away yet.

This weekend I was actually thinking about ordering more of these bookshelves, and then thought stupid stupid stupid! That’s like buying new slacks rather than losing 10 lbs to fit more comfortably into the ones you already own. Well, actually I was thinking about that, too, but that’s another discussion for another day.

I am committed to using up half (or more realistically a third) of this stuff this year. My goal is for everything to fit on the shelves. I have a closet of bolts for backings so I’m all set there. Perhaps some border fabrics or very small cuts of colors I might need for applique is all I will be purchasing.

I didn’t make a New Year’s resolution this year – so this is my March 16th resolution! Better late than never!

My apologies. I was frustrated trying to get this to post last night, so I kept hitting the button. Went to bed with no post showing. This morning it was posted twice. And when I deleted one of them, your comments are now gone, too. Sorry! But thank you for your support in my new resolution. I'm counting on all of you to hold me to it! LOL

WOW! I thought my stash was to much. Not that I now have permission to go out and buy more. I am working on sewing up my fabric also. Seems like a common thread with the blogs I read. Good Luck, I look forward to seeing emply shelves in December.

Vicky: Your stash is so organized. I think stashbusting is kinda like losing weight . . no matter how much we know we *need* to do it, until the time is just right, we can't stick with the commitment. Good luck!

Sorry about the car repairs . . that's such a waste.

And, speaking of pants, I went ahead and bought the next bigger size! :)

It looks so organized Vicky in the color groupings. We will be here to cheer you on while you make a dent in it.

Vicky, go to Bonnie's website and read about leaders/enders if you have not already been told this- I know I am running late with reading and posting-no problem about deleting previous post-I knew you would have to dump one of them LOL..!

Thanks Cher. I just got home and will head over there in a bit to check it out. If I turn up missing, that's where I'll be.

The stash is organized in those two places only. I won't take pictures of the closets! I'll just leave that to your imagination! LOL

Remember, I'm counting on you guys to keep me on the stash-busting straight and narrow here!

What a beautiful stash! LOVE those pastels, Christmassy colours, the whole lot! If I don't lose some pounds I'll be going round naked! Just can't bring myself to buy the bigger size AGAIN LOL. Much rather buy beautiful fabric!!

What a very organized stash - at least the part your sharing! I love all your colors and look forward to seeing what quilts you are going to make with that fabric. Taking before and after photos of those bookcases would be a great motivator - no new fabrics allowed on those shelves until the end of the year so you can take another photo... just a thought.

Cheers!

You're going to use half of it all this year?? Good luck - mine keeps multiplying on the shelf even though I've seriously restricted my buying. Because my focus this first 3 months has been on UFO's I haven't used as much of my stash as I'd like - just borders, bindings, and backings.

Good luck at your stash busting! Sorry to hear about your car--but in some small way it will really force you to be more creative. So you will eventually win in the long run! But man, it sure takes a lot to see ANY dent in stash while trying to bust it. So, start sewing girl!!

OK - you win the prize hands down. Your stash is certainly bigger than mine. Hooray! I found someone to say that to! Everyone things no one can possibly have more stash than I do. Your's looks so beautiful - you're going to have a wonderful time playing in it.

Another thought - looks like you are also a sucker for a pretty stack of fat quarters tied with a ribbon. Those are my biggest downfall!

Oh, gosh, Patti, I'm a sucker for anything that has a sizing smell to it! Well, I used to be. I'm a stash buster now!! :) lol
